Description
The Green Energy Installer program at ACE Trades and Technical Institute is designed for students passionate about renewable energy. This flexible, student-focused certification emphasizes hands-on training using industry-standard equipment in a workshop. Integrated theory complements the practical learning, preparing students for real-world success in the green energy sector. The BCCA Future Builders aims to equip individuals with skills in green energy construction to improve their employability. It includes employability skills training and green energy skills training, focusing on solar, electric, and wind technologies. This initiative aims to increase the number of skilled workers in the construction industry and foster sustainable career pathways in Kamloops and Prince George.
Program Structure
- Program Schedule:
- Start Date: June 09
- Duration: 8 weeks
- Schedule: Monday to Friday 9am – 3:30pm
- Venue: 150 WOOD ST., KAMLOOPS, BC, V2B 0G6 (JOHN TOD CENTRE Y)
Week 1: YMCA Orientation & Onboarding (Online)
Week 2: ATTI – Safety Orientation, Basic Electrical Theory & Hands-On Shop Projects (In Person)
Weeks 3–5: ATTI – Fundamentals of Renewable Energy, Sustainability & Clean Technologies (Online)
Weeks 6–7: ATTI – Green Technology Shop Training & Employer Networking Event (In Person)
Week 8: Resume & Employability Skills Workshop (Online)

Requirements for Enrollment
Participant should be able to work in canada and should meet one of the following:
Canadian Citizen | PR | Approved Refugee | Open Work Permit
Age 15 to 29
And one of the following groups who identify as:
Immigrants OR Newcomers (arrived in Canada in last 5 years)
OREquity seeking populations
ORResidents of rural areas
Learning Objectives
- Installation of solar electric systems on various buildings, including residential and commercial structures.
- Proficient use of hand tools, encompassing both manual and powered tools, for the installation of racking and modular components.
- Maintenance of a safe and organized work site, adhering to all relevant safety protocols and regulations.
- Adherence to workplace safety standards, including the utilization of personal protective equipment such as fall arrest gear, aerial lift platforms, and breathing apparatus.

1. What credentials are available at the end of this training?
Upon successful completion of the program, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from the college. This vocational certificate affirms that the individual has completed hands-on training in green energy installation and acquired essential job-ready skills for entry-level employment in the renewable energy sector.
Note: This is a non-credit vocational program and does not offer transferable credits to other colleges or universities.
2. What recognized credentials are available at the end of the training?
While the program does not provide formal trade certification or professional installer licensing, it is designed to prepare participants for entry-level roles in the clean energy sector such as:
- Electrical Helper
- Solar Panel Installer Helper
- Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger Installer Helper
Participants will gain hands-on training aligned with current industry practices and safety standards, including:
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including fall arrest gear and aerial lift platforms
- Safe worksite setup and tool usage
- Installation procedures for solar panels and EV chargers
This training lays the groundwork for those seeking to pursue further certification and licensing in the future.
3. The college is located in Surrey – what employer connections are available locally to this community?
Although our main campus is located in Surrey, we are actively developing local employer partnerships in Kamloops and the surrounding areas to support the successful rollout of this program in the region.
In 2024, our team successfully trained 37 students in the Kelowna area, many of whom secured employment with reputable green energy employers such as Okanagan Solar Limited, Nova Independent Resources, Future West Solar, Create Solar, Roost Solar, and Kuby Renewable Energy.
We are now expanding those efforts in Kamloops, where we have local employer partners who are supporting this program and are eager to provide job opportunities to our graduates.
4. What supports are available to participants in this training? (From our perspective – 1-1 Case Management)
Participants benefit from personalized one-on-one case management throughout the duration of the program. This includes:
- Individualized support with job search strategies and career planning
- Resume and interview preparation
- Connection to local job opportunities
- Ongoing coaching to help overcome barriers to employment
